WE'RE GOING TO THE FAIR

In an effort to go green, an abbre-viated Fair catalog has been mailed to all 4-H families. For access to the complete catalog, including Animal Roundup and General Project Rules, visit the Erie County 4-H website at: http://erie.extension.psu.edu/4-h/. You can also request to have rules mailed or faxed to you by contacting the office at 825-0900.

Please take some time to read through it and learn about all of the great things happening at this year's Fair. Don't forget to read the rules carefully and determine what you need to do in order to be properly entered in the Roundup events. There are separate entry forms for Dog Roundup, Rabbit & Cavy Roundup, Breeding Livestock Roundup and General Projects Roundup (sewing, cooking, shooting sports, model horse, gardening and more). If you are participating in the horse, dairy or market livestock roundups, your entries have already been made. All other entries are due to the office no later than Weds., July 30. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Fair with all of your projects!

4-H FAIR WORKNIGHT

We need you! On Weds., August 6, we will be meeting at the fair-grounds to prepare for the 4-H Fair the following weekend. Please join us starting at 6:30 p.m. to help set up tables, sweep out the Home Show Building, spread sawdust, clean the grounds and more. We need all the help that we can get from teens, volunteers and all 4-H members!

4-H Club Exhibits: The theme for Club Exhibits this year is "A Herd of Fun." Think about how your club can best express this theme in a display to exhibit in the Home Show building during the Fair. Top place ribbons will be awarded, and this is a great opportunity to share with others what goes on in your club. The same theme applies for the Wattsburg Fair, so you can enter your display at both. If your club plans to display a club exhibit, please call Janice at
825-0900 by Weds., July 30.

MDA Carnival: We anticipate seeing every 4-H club hosting a carnival game of their choosing during our annual program-wide community service fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Each club can have one to three carnival booths set-up in the commercial building on Saturday afternoon of the Fair, while general project judging is going on. The club who sells the most tickets will earn the opportunity to present all of the money earned by appearing on TV during the MDA telethon on Labor Day. Contact Janice at 825-0900 to inform her of your club carnival booth game choices for this year so that we can plan enough space for everyone.

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!!

Donate your old books to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. For every book that you bring to the MDA Carnival, Teen Council will give you ten free tickets to the Carnival. Special prizes will also be awarded to the top book donators!! So start saving up your books, you can't have too many!!

We hope to see you at many of the Erie County 4-H Fair Events this summer!

A PICNIC FOR ALL!!

Teen Council is hosting a summer picnic and inviting all teens to come out and have some fun. We'll have food, fun and watch the Wizard of Oz. Keep Mon., July 14, open at 5:00 p.m. for the picnic at the Pavolko's house (8947 Rt. 6N, Albion, PA) For more information contact Julie at the office at 825-0900.

Members currently enrolled in any 4-H horse project are eligible. Ownership of a horse is not manda-tory for completing an application. Emphasis is on the member and his/her participation in the horse program, plus his/her leadership and impact on club, county and community in general. Finalists will be recognized during the State
4-H Horse Show. The member with the highest-scoring entry will receive a tack trunk (or similar item). Applications in Erie County are due to the office no later than Weds.,

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

Have you ever been intrigued by the clothing worn by various cultures and ethnic groups? Patreese Ingram and Jan Scholl, Penn State Extension Specialists, have developed a wonderful new 4-H project called Exploring Clothes from Cultures Around the World that will help take the mystery out of unfamiliar dress. 4-H leaders can learn more about this project at a workshop at the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit in Edinboro on Weds., July 30, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cost of the program is $17. Act 48 Hours are available for educators. Further information can be found under the Food and Nutrition link on our website by clicking on Regional Family Living Programs.

Our Country is becoming increase-ingly diverse, and we prepare our youth to live and thrive in that world by helping them to understand people with diverse backgrounds. Call Janice at the office if you'd like more information.

NEWSREPORTER NOTES

Teen Council met at the office for their June meeting. They discussed making some changes to better the events that they host. They will continue to sell T-shirts from the Auction. T-shirts may be purchased for $8 (XXL for $9) at the office. The group welcomed Julie Vavreck, the Family Living Summer Assistant, a Teen Council alumna. Plans are being constructed for an obstacle course during the 4-H Fair. The next meeting will be held Tues., July 29, at the Vo-Tech School.

Tally Ho 4-H Club has been busy with all of our 4-H activities. We did great at the Horse Judging at Three-Point Farm! Graceanne Domino's combined senior team placed 1st and she placed 4th individually. Olivia Domino's combined junior team placed 1st. KarriAnne Wiggers' combined senior team placed 2nd. Graceanne & Laura Wheeler are looking forward to attending State Days in August. At our last meeting we voted to donate $40 for the horse sponsorship qualifying shows. Our club is looking forward to enjoying our club's family picnic at the Manison's house. We are all planning to participate in the MDA carnival and our club will be offering stuffed animals, horse and dog books for prizes. Our project books are almost finished, and we are all hoping for blue ribbons please!

True Grit 4-H Club held our meeting on Fri., June 6. We welcomed two new members Daniel and Olivia DeFelippis, both will be showing meat goats. Welcome to the Erie Co. 4-H!! At our next get together, which will be our club picnic on Sat., July 19, the club is buying hotdogs and hamburgers, everyone else is bringing something to share . We reminded everyone to get activities done and record books updated. We also received a letter from St. Boniface Food Pantry thanking our club for our paper product donations, it was much appreciated.

Mountaintop 4-H Club discussed the theme of our float for the Heritage Days Parade at our monthly meeting. Also at the meeting Michaela Donnell gave a presentation on injections for your animals. She was assisted by her aunt, Denise Perkins. Mentioned at the meeting was the IBO (Interna-tional Bowhunter's Organization) Triple Crown because many of our members belong to Blazing Arrows 4-H Club as well. Several members had fun participating in the 4-H shoot at the Triple Crown, shooting arrows at 3D targets and getting soaked. We were also presented with medals with our names on them by the Presidents of the IBO and Gem City Sportsman's Club. The meeting next month is on Tues., July 15, at 6:00 p.m. at the Buhl's house, wear old clothes as we are going to be painting. We will also have our picnic then.
