PROJECT CHECK-INS AT 4-H FAIR
This year's general projects roundup is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Noon. This is a change from previous yearswhen the Roundup was held on Friday. Because many 4-H'ers will be participating in other Roundups on Saturday morning, please note that the Home Show Building will be open beginning at 8:30 a.m., so you can check-in your project anytime from then until Noon when the judg-ing will begin. General projects must stay on display until Sunday so that all 4-H'ers have a chance to see your exhibits. They can be picked up from Noon to 1:00 p.m. that day.

All Livestock and Dairy Animal Projects must be checked-in by their respective times on Friday night (Dairy by 5:00 p.m., Livestock between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.). Horses may not be brought to the Fair-grounds until Sunday. Dogs, Rabbits and Cavies can be brought on the day of their shows.

BOOK DRIVE AT THE 4-H FAIR
Anyone who brings one or more new or used children's books in good condition to the Carnival at the 4-H Fair will receive five free Carnival tickets! This community service project, sponsored again this year by the Erie County 4-H Teen Council, will benefit Edison Elemen-tary School, 4-H's "adopt-a-school" partner. The books will be sorted and distributed among the school's kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms. Please do your part to help with this book drive. Bring one or more children's books to the Carnival on Saturday.

FUN AT THE 4-H FAIR
The 4-H Fair isn't just about your project or Roundup, there are lots of other things going on as well. Make plans to check out all of the shows going on at the Fairgrounds, play a few games at the Carnival, and participate in Super Happy Fun Team Activities. If your club isn't already running a carnival game this year, contact Shawn at the office today to arrange one. All tickets are 5¢ and all proceeds are donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The club who collects the most tickets at their carnival game will get to deliver the proceeds on TV during the annual MDA telethon in the fall.

ATTENTION TEEN COUNCIL!
There's no meeting on Aug. 2 because of State Achievement Days. However, please meet with Mr. Shawn at the Fairgrounds on work night, Aug. 9, to help set up the Home Show Building and to plan Super Happy Fun Team Activities!

4-H FAIR WORKNIGHT
Don't forget that everyone's help is needed in getting the Fairgrounds ready for the Erie County 4-H Fair. Please come out and join us for a night of table moving, floor sweep-ing, sawdust spreading and more. Anyone and everyone is welcome, so bring a friend too! We will be meet-ing at the Fairgrounds starting at
6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

COOKOFF COOKBOOK IS HERE!
Has your mouth been watering all summer think-ing about all those delicious foods you sampled during this year's 4-H Cookoff? Well then, you're in luck, because all of those recipes are now available in the 2006 Cookoff Cook-book. You can access the cookbook online at: http://erie.extension.psu. edu/4-h/cookoff/cookoff.htm or request a printed copy from the office. Bon Appetite!

4-H TABLE SPONSORS SOUGHT
Thank you to all those who have already offered to sponsor our newly purchased tables. There is at least one more table left to sponsor, and maybe more if you are willing to help us out with a $50 donation. If you're interested in sponsoring a table in the name of your family or business, please contact the office.

HORSE PROGRAM NEWS
Congratulations to all those who have participated in the first two Qualify-ing Shows so far this summer. Both shows had many participants and were a success thanks to the efforts of the show chairs, Judy Parker and Chris Williams - Qualifier 1, and Elizabeth Bross - Qualifier 2, not to mention the many other volunteers who step up and offer their help throughout the day. We look forward to seeing all of this year's horse performance project members at the Horse Roundup on Sun., Aug. 13.

Congratulations also goes out to all those who participated in the North-western Regional Production show on Monday, July 24. Five Erie County 4-H'ers and their horses have qualified to go on to States. They are Alicia Rys with Raps Arwen to Win; Andrew Corrigan Stearns with Vegas Swing Music; Lauren Harrington with Kisses From Mr. Puckers; Katelyn Pacansky with Poco Bandoho; and Desiree Parker with Hesa Ratchin Array. Great Job by all!

NEWSREPORTER NOTES

At the July Beefer's plus meeting members discussed the 4-H Fair. They decided on which two games they will have for the MDA. Carnival. They were reminded to get their Health Charts for the upcoming 4-H Roundup and Waterford Fair. Congratulations to Michaela Downes for being named Erie County Dairy Maid. Kameron Willis will be hosting a 4-H Japanese student, his name is Kazuhide. Please introduce yourself to him and make him feel welcome. Kris and Kaitlyn Willis, Kayla Hess, and Michaela Downes walked at the Relay For Life at McDowell High School.

This month, the Cloverleaf Riders are busy practicing for the horse show. In July we had a "bring your horse" meeting. We practiced different things. We are getting ready for our camp. Congratulations to everyone at the June qualifier. Everyone did a wonderful job. Congratulations to Brandon Stafford on graduating from high school this June. Good luck Brandon at Tri-State. We hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

The 4-H Exchange Club flew to Iowa for five days and it was A BLAST! If you are interested in traveling, this is the club for you. We will be hosting 4-H members from Minnesota next summer and traveling there in 2008. Our next meeting is the Sep. 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Edinboro Boro Building basement. Anyone interested, please call Jenn at the office.

Country Clover Kids had a meeting on July 16 at the Biebel's farm, and it was our family picnic. We had our business meeting, discussed our day at Waldameer, went over what is expected at Roundup and to make sure everyone got their health chart scheduled with the vet. General project books were reviewed to make sure they were current and posters were showed or ideas were given to the ones having problems. Farm checks were completed earlier this month, and everyone seems to be doing well. We decorated our trash can, and everyone had fun. The meeting was adjourned, and the picnic BEGAN! We had the show animals out and took turns learning proper technique with them. Then it was time to eat. Our next meeting will be August 12.

Please note the following change: To get your news in the Banner, send
your articles by the 20th of the month to jrf21@psu.edu.
